Where Reservoirs Leak
- Construction joints between lifts and between the floor slab and walls, including cold joints with defective waterstops;
- Floor and wall cracks produced by shrinkage, settlement or thermal gradients;
- Pipe penetrations, inlet/outlet openings, overflows and pump-sump connections;
- Honeycombed and poorly compacted concrete that weeps under pressure;
- Expansion joints where sealants and buried waterstops have aged and failed.
Sealing Approach
For reservoirs in service, most repairs can be carried out on the interior face after the structure is emptied and cleaned; emergency repairs can also be performed underwater or against flowing water with quick-setting materials. Our standard procedure combines three levels of defense:
- Stop the active leak: active points and joints are routed into dovetail grooves and plugged with rapid-setting Waterproof Master or high-strength plugging compound;
- Bond and consolidate: cracks and voids are injected with AS grout or specialty epoxy resin to restore strength and eliminate internal water paths;
- Seal the surface: a cementitious capillary crystalline coating or DPS agent is applied over the concrete; active chemicals grow insoluble crystals in the capillary pores and keep reacting wherever future water penetrates.
Safety for Drinking Water
For potable-water reservoirs we use only inorganic, non-toxic grouts and cementitious crystalline systems with no harmful solvents or volatile components. These materials do not change the taste, color or odor of the water and are suitable for long-term immersion. Flexible epoxy and polyurethane systems are reserved for non-potable structures or for movement joints where elastic performance is required.
Long-Term Protection
Because crystalline waterproofing becomes part of the concrete rather than a surface layer, it cannot peel, blister or be punctured, and it tolerates damp substrates and repeated filling cycles. On hydraulic structures exposed to abrasion by sediment-laden water, we additionally apply high-impact-resistant solvent-free epoxy mortar to extend the service life of the repaired surface.
