Unique Secondary Self-Healing Function

The greatest advantage of AS grout is its ability to repair a second time. After AS grout has been applied, if a new fracture face develops nearby and a secondary crack or leak appears, the remaining active material is carried by water to the crack and penetrates the new fracture face. There it reacts again with calcium hydroxide to form new cement stone and colloidal matter, automatically repairing the leak a second time. A white substance is simultaneously precipitated at the crack, blocking it.

Initially the crack may show a damp mark, which disappears automatically after about one week.

Typical Applications

AS grout is suited to building projects with large-area seepage and is particularly effective for leaks in the floor slabs and roof slabs of building basements.

  • For floor-slab injection, holes must be positioned on either side of the water-entry path; otherwise the required injection result cannot be achieved.
  • For roof-slab injection, drill depth should ideally reach the leveling course. Avoid damaging the waterproof membrane — if the membrane is accidentally punctured, excessive grout will be injected.
  • For slight seepage, either one of the two components alone can stop the water; where the water flow is large, both must be injected together.
  • For tunnel primary-lining injection, dual-component injection is mandatory and also consolidates clay-bearing ground. At gushing locations in the secondary lining, dual-component injection is required; slight seepage may be treated with a single component.

Compatibility with Other Grouts

The material can be combined with any other injection grout so that the materials complement one another. It handles a wide range of difficult water-leak problems and is compatible with polyurethane foam, polyurea resin, epoxy resin, phenolic resin, urea-formaldehyde resin, Marithan-type products, bentonite slurry, acrylate gels and a whole series of other formulations.

Application Precautions

  • Use a dual-component grout injection pump.
  • The two liquids must never be mixed together before pumping.
  • If the liquids feel too viscous, they may be diluted with a suitable amount of water; diluted grout must be used within 24 hours or it will settle and lose effectiveness.
  • After completion, the pump can be cleaned directly with water.
  • When placed in large expansion joints, the grout settles together with the concrete.
  • Full personal protection is essential during injection. AS is a low-alkaline multi-hydroxyl material that protects reinforcing steel in concrete but can burn skin and eyes. Operators must wear gloves and protective goggles.
