Active Crystallization in Water
Because the material has a strong affinity for water, long after application it continues to react inward along fine cracks and capillary channels wherever water penetrates, using the branching crystals it forms to fill the fine leakage paths. This increases concrete strength while stopping water. Its unique character makes it well suited to waterproofing both the interior (negative) and exterior (positive) faces of underground structures.
The chemicals in the material catalyze the gradual formation of water-insoluble crystals along voids and capillaries as water permeates, and this process continues even under high water pressure. Unlike other waterproofing systems, the waterproofing function is permanent: under normal conditions the fibrous crystal structure that is formed cannot be damaged.
Safety and Simplicity
The material is non-toxic and easy to apply and may be used on concrete structures holding water and foodstuffs; dams and drinking-water facilities can therefore use it. It is applied by brush as two or more coats or sprayed, with consumption of about 0.8 to 1.0 kg per square meter.
Treatment of Defects
Pipe openings through walls, structural cracks wider than 0.4 mm and construction joints are routed into U-shaped grooves 20 mm wide and 25 mm deep, washed clean, all standing water removed, then coated and compacted. Honeycombed and loose concrete is cut out completely and flushed until sound concrete is reached; a coating is applied to the damp substrate, after which the defect is filled and compacted with waterproof mortar (Portland cement : medium sand : waterproofing agent : water = 1 : 2.5 : 0.1 : 0.4) or waterproof pea-gravel concrete.
Mixing and Application
The coating mix ratio is material-to-water = 1:0.4 by weight. Weigh the powder and water into a container and mix with a slow-speed drill (about 250 rpm) and paddle or another mixer until uniform; hand mixing is acceptable if thorough. The mixed material must be used within 30 minutes, stirred continuously during use, and no additional water or powder may be added. Apply with a stiff bristle brush using firm back-and-forth strokes, or spray with dedicated equipment; spray mixes are thinner at 1:0.6.
Curing
Curing is critical. As soon as the coating has hardened enough that sprayed water will not damage it, cure carefully for 72 hours, spraying at least three times daily (more often in hot weather) or covering with damp burlap for three days. Because the coating needs direct contact with air during curing, impermeable plastic sheeting must not be placed directly on it.
Scope, Packing and Storage
Suitable for floors, roofs, walls, kitchens, bathrooms, civil air-defense works, metro, tunnels, water and aquaculture pools and sealed sewage structures in both new and existing buildings. Do not combine with gypsum or lime; not for asphalt, plastic or very smooth surfaces; do not apply in strong sunlight, rain or below -5 C. Packed in 25 kg moisture-proof woven bags lined with plastic film, it should be sealed in a dry place against moisture; shelf life is one year, after which re-testing is required.
